The Role of Governors
The role of the Governing Board is strategic; its key functions are to:
- set the aims and objectives of the school,
- set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives,
- set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives,
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives,
- be a source of challenge and support to the Head Teacher.
The Head Teacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing body.
All governors attend the termly Full Governor Board meetings. Governors are also members of committees that support the school. These committees are:
- Resources Committee (responsible for the school finances)
- Curriculum & Standards Committee (academic outcomes, school targets and curriculum)
- Safeguarding & Premises (keeping our school a safe environment).
Governors often hold an area of responsibility (for example Safeguarding or English) They will visit school to undertake monitoring visits or to develop a piece of work with a particular focus.
