What is Pupil Premium?
Each year we receive additional funding for pupils who meet certain criteria. This is called PUPIL PREMIUM and is worth over £1300 in funding every year. Your child will directly benefit from this funding; for example by getting cheaper school uniform or cheaper school trips. Once your child becomes eligible for this funding, it is guaranteed for 6 years, so most of your child’s time in Primary School. (If your child is older, this funding will follow them into secondary school too.)
Most Pupil Premium children are entitled to free school meals initially. The other children would never know – they are managed in the same as those who pay for their meals. These free school meals would end if your eligibility criteria changes, but school would still continue to receive the pupil premium funding for 6 years.
This is often confused with Universal Free School meals, an initiative that the government introduced a several years ago. This just means that ALL infants (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) get free school dinners until they reach Year 3.
Please don’t let this stop you from applying for Pupil Premium if you think you could meet the criteria as the funding the school and your child is entitled to will not be allocated in our budget.
You will meet the criteria if you receive:
· Universal credit or if your household income is under £7,400 per year after tax, and not including any other benefits
· income support
· jobseeker’s allowance
· working tax credit run-on.
· child tax credit (providing you're not also entitled to WTC and have a household income of no more than £16,190 per year )
· support under part VI of the immigration and Asylum Act
All applications are submitted to the office and are treated with the strictest of confidence. We then pass the information on to the Authority who run the check. We then inform you of the outcome.
