What is the Sports Premium?
The Government has again committed to funding of £150 million per annum for this financial year to provide substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The funding equates to £17,780 in total for the year.
The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. At Meersbrook Bank Primary School we believe that physical activity improves health, reduces stress, improves concentration, and promotes correct physical growth and development. We recognise that exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others.
Our school provides a broad and balanced programme of physical education with activities designed to be enjoyable, vigorous, purposeful and regular. Through providing positive experiences, a lifelong interest in physical activity is encouraged. The range of physical activities delivered is wide and includes athletics, dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and outdoor education.
By using our allocated school sport funding we deliver a high quality programme, which is designed to satisfy the needs, abilities and interests of all individual children.
